I figured I’d kick something a bit different to you guys today. This Friday, The Lovely Bones will be released in select theaters with its nationwide release date set for January 15, 2010. Here’s a bit of backstory for you in case this is your first time hearing about it:
The Lovely Bones is a film adaptation of the novel written by Alice Sebold that centers around a teenage girl who’s been murdered and watches her family, as well as her killer, from heaven as they deal with her passing and the investigation led by the local police. I read the book last year and I cannot tell you how enthralled I was in it; it’s such a different concept and when I actually had the time to sit down and read it, I couldn’t put it down.
In this Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings series, King Kong) directed film, actors Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Max Payne) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Constant Gardener) play the grieving parents of Susie Salmon, played by Oscar-nominated actress Saolrse Ronan. Stanley Tucci, who has appeared in such films as The Devil Wears Prada (a personal favorite of mine), A Life Less Ordinary, and America’s Sweethearts, appears as Susie’s neighbor and murderer. With renowned actress Susan Sarandon also on the roster and filmmaker extraordinaire Steven Spielberg lined up as an executive producer, Jackson’s vivid imagery of the story is sure to entertained and make the plot’s leap from the pages to the screen a smooth and exciting transition.
I was on the Apple website one day about three months ago and saw the trailer for this posted and almost died, and though I’m sad that it won’t be anywhere near me until January, I will definitely be stashing my $10 so I can check this out opening weekend.
If it’s playing in your neck of the woods this weekend, please go see it and tell me how it is. If you’re one of those people who likes to read the book before you see the movie to compare notes, then head to your local bookstore or library and dig through those shelves. Online shopping more your speed? Hit up Amazon.com and purchase a copy for your home library.
Again, The Lovely Bones comes out nationwide on January 15, 2010, but for those lucky few who live in a selected city you’ll get to check it out this upcoming Friday. Here’s the trailer for a sneak peek at what’s in store for your viewing pleasure.
Stay COOL, folks.
