With 2011 wrapping up in these last days, it’s time to recount the music that has had the most impact on me – and hopefully yourself, if you’ve heeded my multiple recommendations.
Up first is SURF CLUB’s resident R&B songstress STACY BARTHE.
R&B has been faltering lately, let’s be frank: if you’re not into a certain type of artist – which is all across the spectrum – your palette has been left with a lack of flavorful music that makes you FEEL. STACY BARTHE is sure to change all of that with her smoky tone and bittersweet lyricism about the loss of love and ways of coping. If you’ve never been hurt before, you couldn’t fathom the meaning of most of her material; for those who have, they know the feeling well. STACY has managed to effectively transcribe a wounded heart’s conversation with the brain and it producer of the year, HIT-BOY, has composed complementary instrumentals to make it all gel. The result of this was SINCERELY YOURS, an eight-track EP that reads from the book telling of a broken heart. Her songwriting skills has earned her credit with pop’s biggest artists (BEYONCÉ, RIHANNA, BRITNEY SPEARS), but her own heart’s song will be the one to rule 2012.
