QUiRK TUNES: “LOOKING FOR LOVE” – SIERGIO

artworks-000035271675-v1bs5f-original

This song … I can’t even put into words how good it makes me feel and it’s no mistake that it belongs to SIERGIO, the guy with the smoldering tone and outstanding range. I LOVE this guy! You can’t tell me shit about Siergio: besides being a talented singer, he’s a great person as a whole and that makes me want him to succeed more than anyone else I’ve come across while doing this blogging thing. No shade though – I still love all y’all.

“Looking For Love” speaks to every woman who’s dated dud after dud until she’s found Mr. Siergio. If you’ve been looking for love then you’ve been looking for me is a BOLD statement but Siergio sells it and forces you to want to take him up on his offer. Now all you have to do is track him down … go get him, girl!

TURN MY ____ ON! FASHIONS WE LOVED IN 2011

Here at QUiRK TALES!, we’re all about supporting small businesses – especially small businesses who make dope shit that we can rock on the regular. I’ve had the privilege of tracking some great clothing lines this year; here’s a quick recap of that!

+ CHAD KOOLINGTON: This line, created by CORNELL LA’FLARE, was my first interview for the blog so I’ll always be appreciative to CORNELL for allowing me to share his story with my readers. I love penguins and I love t-shirts, so it was obviously love at first sight for me and the CHAD KOOLINGTON line. Its message was dope and poignant to the upcoming generation who is all about expressing themselves through their style, which is undefined by previous designers. Not targeting a specific demographic, CK strives to get consumers to essentially embrace the “fuck it” factor within – so to speak. Raheem DeVaughn and CyHi Da Prince rock CHAD KOOLINGTON, so fall in line and don’t miss out.

+ ILTHY: Cleveland’s known for producing extraordinary rappers and a basketball phenom; however, that isn’t all that the city has to offer. ILTHY’s cartoon designs of popular pop culture fixtures combined with a t-shirt quality that is comparable to the softest of pillows was enough to catch my attention this spring and I never regretted that purchase. The end of 2011 found the clothing line opening their very own flagship store, which is major for any budding clothing line. If I’m ever in Cleveland, I’m definitely stopping by to check Glen and the guys out. Here’s to a successful 2012 and beyond!

+ DEADLINE LTD: Upon seeing spokeswoman SEIKO HUFFMAN in a Muhammed Ali crewneck, I had to research this garment and who it came from, so I could act accordingly and cop it ASAP. Unfortunately, the sweatshirt was sold out but I was introduced to DEADLINE LTD and haven’t looked back since. From “The Godfather” references to body outlines available in assorted colors, DEADLINE is all about the real and keeping it exactly that at all times. Ran between L.A. and New York City, their style is skater meets the streets – a concept brought together by the line’s co-owners Junbug and NA – and has prospered this year with celebrity endorsements by MISTAH FAB, WAKA FLOCKA, and NIPSEY HUSSLE to name a few. 2012 will only be better and bigger – I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll see NA and the guys down in Austin!

+ UNKOMMONKOLOR: This Dallas clothing line has controlled my life for at least the last two years and I am not angered by this at all. I met Bryan Blue and Jeremy Biggers – the co-owners of UNKO – (you guessed it) in Austin at Nice Kicks and was thrilled to see the coolest guys in Texas who have been responsible for upgrading my graphic tee game. The brand’s representatives and their love for art, photography, and music makes them dope and at this point, it isn’t a question of whether I’ll support them: it’s how much do I plan on spending when their latest line drops. By the way, UNKO plans on kicking off the new year with something extremely special on January 2nd – don’t miss out. Have those funds readily available to cop some dope shit because it will be dope.

QUiRK TALES’ TALENTED FIVE OF 2011

I’ve featured some pretty dope individuals over the past twelve months and come to know some great people who are out here trying to make a way by way of their craft. Here’s an all-star line up of those folks and be sure to look for them in 2012!

+ SIERGIO: An R&B singer hailing from Atlanta by way of Chicago, SIERGIO is a pure joy on so many levels. His voice is what the industry has been missing and at year’s end, his music has been receiving love from ATL to NYC to INDONESIA! His EP, UNDERNEATH THE COVERS, is filled with covers of your favorite songs by BEYONCÉ, CHRIS BROWN, MELANIE FIONA, and more as well as an original song entitled “Yes” that sends you to a whole other place upon listening. 2012 will be good to SIERGIO: more music releases, more shows, and more of him! I’m definitely plotting on getting him to NYC for a showcase and take all this to the next level. Keep an eye out for his name, folks.

+ TRIPZ: A friend of my blog since its creation in 2009, rapper TRIPZ has stepped his game up this year – he’s dropped freestyles to fan favorites like Drake and Rick Ross’ “Lord Knows”, released “INTERSTATE MUSIC” on iTunes this summer, and throws the hottest parties in the city that never sleeps. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in person this past April and I’m telling you – the hype is real, people! It’s only a matter of time before he blows up and I can say I supported him before everybody hopped on the wave. I have a feeling that 2012 will be good to TRIPZ because he’s genuine about his art and honest about elevating his skill level, which is rare in a hip hop artist.

+ SORE LOSERS/BRAINGANGBLUE: I had the best experience in March when I stopped by the SORE LOSERS show during SXSW in Austin, TX; I’ve been covering the hip hop duo since the beginning of my blogging “career” and have always enjoyed them. It hurt my heart to find that BLUE, the producer of the duo, had stepped away from the group that now consists of a live band; however, things happen and as a result, both parties have unleashed some great material that I thoroughly enjoy – BRAIN GANG BLUE with his “NUMB” EP and SORE LOSERS with their recent track, “Euthanasia”, which was posted on the GRAMMY website earlier this year. I’m sure both of these acts will have a strong presence at 2012’s SXSW and I can’t wait to see them!

+ JAY-JAY: Stumbling across talent is always a great thing, especially on the almighty social networking site Twitter. It’s funny how a simple retweet about the ’90s Nickelodeon programming making a comeback can result in me discovering now one of my favorite unsigned artists. JAY-JAY never badgered me for a post on the blog; I had to ask him if he was an artist! That selflessness alone made me listen and I haven’t regretted that decision yet; a St. Louis native, JAY-JAY is nothing like that other rapper hailing from the Mid-West and I truly am thankful for that (no shade). His style is easygoing and upon first listen, his tone reminded me of CURREN$Y – one of my favorite rappers. Between his mixtapes THREE O’CLOCK FLY and THE CANNONBALL RUN, JAY-JAY has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. His grind is never-ending: he has two projects coming out within the next six months! There’s no slowing him down and I’m looking forward to sitting down with him in March for SXSW; 2012 is gonna be something special for this guy.

FASHION: Fli Pelican

My sister put me up on this brand a while back so now that theCOOL is actually starting to get somewhere, I had to big them up.

Based out of Atlanta, Fli Pelican is starting to become the go-to fashion line for artists like Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, and SO many more. Their style is perfect for that casual look yet it pops just enough for it to catch everyone’s eye when you pass them by.

What I like best about their clothing is that it’s custom-made per order so you’re not receiving a product that’s been sitting in a back closet somewhere. Fli Pelican gets a million extra cool points as well for allowing ALL tees to be ordered in both men’s and women’s sizes. In an industry where men usually get all the cool shirts and women get the skimpy leftovers, I was elated to find that when ordering, customers have an option of choosing between the two sizes.

AND women’s shirts start in XS for most products, which is rare. Hey, I’m a small girl so I need to be accommodated just as much as the next person.

Their blog is off the chain as well; keeping up with the latest fashion, music, and all things Fli, The Pelicans are definitely going places. I’m determined to get a piece or ten [lol] for my trip to Austin for SXSW next month.

Hit their site, Fli Pelican, to check out their store or just to catch up on the latest happenings. You should order some stuff too, though. Just putting that out there.

Peep the first episode of FLITV: Season 2 after the click to see what the guys are up to including a sneak peek into what’s to come for their Spring 2010 line. Hot stuff.
