I’ve featured some pretty dope individuals over the past twelve months and come to know some great people who are out here trying to make a way by way of their craft. Here’s an all-star line up of those folks and be sure to look for them in 2012!
+ SIERGIO: An R&B singer hailing from Atlanta by way of Chicago, SIERGIO is a pure joy on so many levels. His voice is what the industry has been missing and at year’s end, his music has been receiving love from ATL to NYC to INDONESIA! His EP, UNDERNEATH THE COVERS, is filled with covers of your favorite songs by BEYONCÉ, CHRIS BROWN, MELANIE FIONA, and more as well as an original song entitled “Yes” that sends you to a whole other place upon listening. 2012 will be good to SIERGIO: more music releases, more shows, and more of him! I’m definitely plotting on getting him to NYC for a showcase and take all this to the next level. Keep an eye out for his name, folks.
+ TRIPZ: A friend of my blog since its creation in 2009, rapper TRIPZ has stepped his game up this year – he’s dropped freestyles to fan favorites like Drake and Rick Ross’ “Lord Knows”, released “INTERSTATE MUSIC” on iTunes this summer, and throws the hottest parties in the city that never sleeps. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in person this past April and I’m telling you – the hype is real, people! It’s only a matter of time before he blows up and I can say I supported him before everybody hopped on the wave. I have a feeling that 2012 will be good to TRIPZ because he’s genuine about his art and honest about elevating his skill level, which is rare in a hip hop artist.
+ SORE LOSERS/BRAINGANGBLUE: I had the best experience in March when I stopped by the SORE LOSERS show during SXSW in Austin, TX; I’ve been covering the hip hop duo since the beginning of my blogging “career” and have always enjoyed them. It hurt my heart to find that BLUE, the producer of the duo, had stepped away from the group that now consists of a live band; however, things happen and as a result, both parties have unleashed some great material that I thoroughly enjoy – BRAIN GANG BLUE with his “NUMB” EP and SORE LOSERS with their recent track, “Euthanasia”, which was posted on the GRAMMY website earlier this year. I’m sure both of these acts will have a strong presence at 2012’s SXSW and I can’t wait to see them!
+ JAY-JAY: Stumbling across talent is always a great thing, especially on the almighty social networking site Twitter. It’s funny how a simple retweet about the ’90s Nickelodeon programming making a comeback can result in me discovering now one of my favorite unsigned artists. JAY-JAY never badgered me for a post on the blog; I had to ask him if he was an artist! That selflessness alone made me listen and I haven’t regretted that decision yet; a St. Louis native, JAY-JAY is nothing like that other rapper hailing from the Mid-West and I truly am thankful for that (no shade). His style is easygoing and upon first listen, his tone reminded me of CURREN$Y – one of my favorite rappers. Between his mixtapes THREE O’CLOCK FLY and THE CANNONBALL RUN, JAY-JAY has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. His grind is never-ending: he has two projects coming out within the next six months! There’s no slowing him down and I’m looking forward to sitting down with him in March for SXSW; 2012 is gonna be something special for this guy.
